Something magical has been happening lately. Over my Christmas break I awoke one morning with my word of the year for 2025 right there in capital letters running through my mind: ABUNDANCE. Usually I have to mull on it for a couple of weeks to find the word that will guide my year but there it was with no searching on my part.
And just a few days into the year, it started manifesting in my life. One of the definitions of abundance in the dictionary is: “the quality of having what you want in life, for example, love, happiness, or career success” and the thing that I have been wanting most in life, for several years now, is a home.
On 4th January, my husband and I were offered one in the exact location we want to be in - the Scottish Highlands - that comes with paid work and where I can also run writing retreats. We’ll be moving in sometime in the Spring. Watch out for info later in the year for the writing retreats.
When I shared my word of the year on Notes, I said “I’m going to have an abundance of love, rest, time in nature, time with friends (old and new), work that I love helping writers develop their craft and deepen their connection to it, wealth, opportunities and learning.”
Love is always in abundance between me and my husband but so far this year, two of my oldest friends have been in touch for the first time in ages telling me they love me. I subscribe to
’s wonderful Substack and she’s always sending love out to her readers and I am learning loads from her and many of the other wonderful Substacks I read. Our new home is surrounded by 55 acres of woodland and parkland, is just down the road from this stunning beach, and there are mountains, forests and lochs all around. The emails we have been exchanging with the owners are filled with the good feelings that come from making new friends. invited me to teach a workshop at her new Creator Retreat where I can share my insights gained from being a working writer for 20 years and also make new connections with writers and learn from them too. So abundance is showing up big time!A big part of this abundance showing up comes from reading “The Game of Life” by Florence Scovell Schinn, which I have been reading aloud to my husband on the many long car journeys we’ve made over the past couple of months. This book is 100 years old this year and it shows us how to harness the power of our words and thoughts to manifest the life we want and remove ourselves from the one that no longer serves us. If you read my posts regularly you will know that I fully believe in the power of our words and thoughts to create the reality we want to see. I wrote more about this here and here.
This book is as relevant now as it was when it was published as it shares the power of positive thinking, along with spiritual guidance, through stories and principles that empower us to navigate life's challenges with grace and resilience. Florence's insights on the power of thoughts, words, and beliefs to shape our destinies are powerful tools. They enabled me to remove old limiting beliefs that were keeping me stuck and opened the path for the abundance that my subconscious told me was coming to reach me.
The power of our subconscious, our words and our thoughts is so much stronger than we have been led to believe. If we open our minds and let go of the limits that have been imposed on them by our materialist world, then we really can create the world we want to see. And the more of us that do it, the more peace, joy and happiness there will be in the world. As
said in her beautiful post, For a Better Humanity, it’s up to us to change things. With love,
